MIAMI, United States. — Agents of the United States Border Patrol (USBP, for its acronym in English) detained 84 Cubans who entered illegally through the border with Mexico between April 2 and 4.
Information from that organization indicates that the nationals of the Caribbean Island were intercepted in different groups while they were traveling with migrants from other countries in the vicinity of Normandy, a community located in Maverick County, Texas.
According to him report of the Border Patrol, on April 2, around five in the morning, 22 Cubans were detained by members of the Eagle Pass Station. Among the migrants were also 65 people from Colombia, 31 from Nicaragua, 21 from Venezuela and seven from Peru.
On April 3, shortly after three in the morning, agents from the same station detained a group of 140 immigrants. In addition to the 33 Cubans, 64 people from Colombia, 34 from Venezuela, eight from Peru and one from Chile were intercepted.
The last group was detained on April 4, at approximately 1:45 am, by agents from the Del Rio station. That day, 126 migrants were taken into the custody of the authorities: 36 from Nicaragua, 29 from Cuba, 28 from Colombia, 23 from Venezuela, 18 from Peru, 13 from Nicaragua and three from Ghana.
On March 28, a total of 1,500 Cuban migrants were detained on the southern border of the United States, twice the daily average of Cuban nationals who entered the United States irregularly in February.
According to the US Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP), from October 2021 to February 2022, a total of 16,550 Cuban migrantsa figure that far exceeds that of the four preceding months: January (9,720), December (7,983), November (6,606) and October (5,893).
