Mides and ASSE inaugurated two day centers for treatment of problematic drug use

This Monday, April 4, two day centers began to operate that will serve some 30 users of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) and beneficiaries of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) with problematic consumption of psychoactive substances. “In the inter-institutional articulation is the comprehensive support that these people need and deserve,” stressed the head of Mides, Martín Lema.

The Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón; the undersecretary of Mides, Andrea Brugman; the president of ASSE, Leonardo Cipriani; the secretary general of the National Drug Board, Daniel Radío; the national director of Social Protection, María Fernanda Auersperg, and the director of ASSE Mental Health, Pablo Fielitz.

In his speech, Lema said that both centers will work from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on clinical and social care, as well as on the causes that lead people to acquire addictions such as alcohol and other psychoactive substances. He added that during the week these places will handle a varied agenda with social containment, sports and recreational activities, in addition to clinical work. Each center will offer a minimum capacity of 15 places.

He also announced that in a month a service called “halfway” will be inaugurated, which will work 24 hours a day for 25 people with problematic consumption. Likewise, he assured that the creation of other centers is planned in conjunction with the National Drug Board, for the comprehensive care of people with addictions.

For his part, Cipriani highlighted the multidisciplinary work that will be carried out in the centers based on the work of doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and therapeutic operators. The hierarch expressed that the beneficiaries of these treatments will be the patients who decide to continue in abstinence after going through hospitalization experiences in communities. He also highlighted that, by using facilities belonging to Mides, no new structures or costs will be generated.

Both service centers will be managed by the National Information and Reference Center of the Drug Network, Portal Amarillo, following an agreement between Mides and ASSE. One of them is located on Calle Guayabos, corner of Emilio Frugoni, Montevideo, and will be used to treat problematic alcohol consumption. The other center, between Paysandú and Río Branco streets, also in the capital, will treat addictions to psychoactive substances. Presidency
