The positivity in Ecuador rose two points in a week. The Ministry of Health estimates an increase in hospital occupancy.
Until the beginning of November 2021, the positivity by Covid-19 in Ecuador, it was 4.7%. This means that for every 100 screening tests, fewer than five tested positive for the virus.
The figure was one of the bases to emphasize that the vaccination has given results, because, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), a pandemic is contained when the positivity is less than 5%.
However, as of November 8, 2021, the base percentage has been exceeded and the positivity stands at 6.6%.
Strategy before a regrowth
The Ministry of Health foresees that there will be an increase in the occupancy of beds in hospitalization and in Intensive Care Units, because, as mentioned by the minister of that State portfolio, Ximena Garzón, there is relaxation in the public, and an increase is also expected cases after the November holiday that lasted four days.
The containment strategy is ready and focuses on 42 hospitals (six specialized) that will activate contingency plans for those infected by Covid-19. However, for the moment it has not been necessary expand and change areas or make use of mobile hospitals that were located outside hospitals in the strongest months of the pandemic.
Unvaccinated they reach intensive care
Data from the Ministry of Health, cut to November 8, 2021, detail that the Four. Five% of the 130 beds for intensive care has occupation
Francisco Mora, coordinator of Epidemiological Surveillance and Infectology of the IESS Quito Sur (sentinel hospital) says that they maintain 16 beds for patients with coronavirus.
Mora points out that the number of patients arriving for respiratory triage has decreased considerably. “Before we received 300 patients and now we are triaging between 60 and 80 a day,” he details. Of the 80 people who go with suspicion, approximately five confirm that they have Covid-19. “This drop in hospitalization is also noticeable in intensive care units (…)”.
Mora defines that the types of infected are patients who have not been vaccinated or who have severe acute respiratory syndromes that can happen something that can happen at this time “due to the climatic changes themselves, this is normal”, highlights the doctor.
With Mora’s description, what was said by the Ministry of Health agrees, which has indicated that the infections are, in addition to people without vaccines, people without the complete scheme; that is, the reinforcement has not been placed. Ximena Garzón, Minister of Health, has detailed that although there is a slight increase in cases, mortality has not changed.
Nationwide, at least 3.8 million people over the age of five do not they have been vaccinated and more than a million have not received their second dose.
Garzón, during a radio interview, confirmed what it means not to be vaccinated, detailing that, for example, in Manabí there are 29 ICU patients: 80% either do not have vaccines or have incomplete vaccination.
Plan ‘Reactivating Health’ continues
Health authorities confirm that there is a slight increase in Covid-19 cases, but have ruled out that this interrupts the project ‘Reactivating Health’ that, among its objectives seeks to increase quotes for external consultation, as well as the demand in pediatric hospitalization, gynecology, General Surgery and internal Medicine.
Patient care has also been resumed oncological, with catastrophic, autoimmune diseases, as well as surgeries and transplants. Therefore, vaccinated citizens must maintain biosecurity measures and those not vaccinated should take extreme care or go to receive their first dose at any health center.
Currently, the third dose is being given to older adults without appointment and the same way they can access those who have not been inoculated yet.
