The Minister of Housing, Carlos Montes, referred to the housing deficit that affects the country, pointing out that there are no exact figures, since “due to the dates that the records were made, the Casen or the Census, they do not reflect reality well, because the migrants have been incorporated later and the families affected by the pandemic too”.
The Secretary of State added in this regard that in “Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción, in densely populated urban areas, there are very serious housing problems, that is, there is an emergency, which requires comprehensive work with other ministries,” said the head of the housing portfolio.
“The current government has proposed an emergency housing plan for four years: 260,000 homes. It is a lot, but it does not account for the entire problem. There are many families who are not going to achieve a solution in this government,” said the minister. Montes, in conversation with meganews.
Regarding the measures that are sought to be implemented, the head of Housing of the government of President Gabriel Boric commented that “normally it is expected that houses will be built in that part, in the models that the ministry has, in that same space, when there are conditions for that”.
“It also has to do with the possibility of regularizing what there is, because for various reasons, there are many families who have built high-quality homes, they have allocated 10%, so it makes no sense that this does not continue to exist,” he added.
Minister Montes emphasized that “there is not a single solution here, there is a diversity of solutions according to the diversity of situations. Time has to start with the people who have been in these conditions the longest.”
“We have a program that is DS49, which has worked in many parts of the country, but in the big cities it has not worked. And that is explained, in part, because the biggest housing problem is in Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción,” concluded.
