Álvaro Elizalde aligns himself with the Government and declares a closed dispute with Argentina over “Wallmapu”

As a “somewhat artificial controversy” the president of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde, cataloged the dust raised on the other side of the mountain range by the use of the term “Wallmapu” by the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, a situation that could well mark the tenor of the official visit made by President Gabriel Boric in Argentina.

The also helmsman of the Socialist Party -as did Minister Siches, Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola and President Gabriel Boric himself- ruled out the use of this term as constituting an underhand questioning of Argentine sovereignty, since the so-called Wallmapu includes a large part of the pampa and Patagonia of the neighboring country.

“A somewhat artificial controversy is generated, because the chancellor herself pointed out that the Minister of the Interior used this concept out of deference to the Mapuche groups and their communities, but there is absolutely no territorial claim by Chile with respect to Argentine territory,” Elizalde declared. in statements reproduced by Emol.com.

“On the contrary, this visit by President Boric demonstrates the desire to strengthen ties and promote integration between two sister countries, so I think an artificial controversy is generated because the concept was used with deference, with education, towards the Mapuche communities. Elizabeth added.

The president of the Senate is part of the entourage that will accompany the president to Buenos Aires, a delegation that is also made up of the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto (PPD); Senators Jaime Quintana (PPD), Juan Ignacio Latorre (RD) and Paulina Núñez (RN); and deputies Eric Aedo (DC), Yovana Ahumada (PDG), Lorena Fries (UNIR), Erika Ñanco (RD) and Guillermo Ramírez (UDI).

It was also reported that President Boric will lead a “coordination meeting” this Sunday at the Park Tower Hotel in Buenos Aires for the purpose of discussing internal contingency issues and other matters that are more typical of the bilateral relationship, such as the situation of the ex-frontist Galvarino Apablaza, who is on trans-Andean soil as a “political refugee.” This matter is of special interest to the UDI, a party that demands his extradition for his responsibility in the attack that cost the life of the former senator and founder of the union party, Jaime Guzmán Errázuriz.

“I hope that we have the opportunity to discuss issues and political contingencies, related to each of the matters that are going to be addressed with the powers of the Argentine State, with the President and the presidents of the Chamber and the Senate, in addition to the Judiciary” declared the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto.
