Relatives of political prisoner Bryan Alemán denounced in an interview with CONFIDENTIAL that authorities of the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as La Modelo, continue without authorizing adequate medical care for his relative, who has had “serious health problems” for five days.
“For five days he has had severe abdominal pain, fever and vomiting. He asks to be taken to the doctor, but the prison guards refuse to provide him with medical care, ”denounced Hanzy Alemán, sister of the prisoner of conscience.
He pointed out that his relative has gotten worse as a result of the lack of medical attention, since “he feels so bad that he does not get up from so much pain, he is weak, and they refuse to attend to him.”
The family of the prisoner of conscience has insisted that the prison authorities provide him with adequate medical attention or take him to a hospital, where an ultrasound can be performed to find out what is causing the abdominal pain; however, the answer they give is that “he does not have authorization to be taken to a hospital.”
The relatives demanded that, if he is not given the immediate release that Bryan deserves because he has not committed any crime, at least his human rights be respected, guaranteeing him adequate medical attention.
second incarceration
The prisoner of conscience Bryan Alemán is one of the political prisoners who has been imprisoned the longest in La Modelo, with more than 19 months of “unjustified confinement.” The young man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime of drug trafficking, after being recaptured by the regime of Daniel Ortega on August 14, 2020, while exercising in a gym in the Óscar Lino neighborhood, in Managua.
In 2019, Alemán was also deprived of his liberty for six months, after participating in the social protests that began in April 2018.
Relatives remember that on December 30, 2019, Alemán was released from prison, but two months later subjects related to the Sandinista Front tried to “kidnap” him. In addition, his relatives denounce that since Bryan’s recapture in August 2020, they have suffered constant siege in their home and harassment during visits to the political prisoner in prison.
