The flow of American motorists to Mexico to find cheaper gasoline has caused fuel shortages in border regions of this country.
“In the United States, gasoline prices are higher than in Mexico, and the citizens of that country cross the border to stock up. Even with the temporary update of the stimuli for gasoline at the borders, on average, prices in Mexico continue to be lower than in the United States,” the Mexican Treasury Secretariat said on Saturday.
The agency also clarified that during the period from April 2 to 8 it would reduce fiscal incentives for gasoline in some 40 municipalities in northern Mexico to zero, with the aim of creating a balance between supply and demand.
According to data from Global Petrol Prices, gasoline cost an average of $1,151 per liter on March 28, compared to $1,224 in the US.
In recent days, prices in both the US and Europe have risen to their highest levels in a decade, as Washington and its allies are discussing bans on oil imports from Russia, the largest exporter of oil. crude oil and oil products in the world, as a response to Moscow’s military operation against Ukraine, which began on February 24.
