In order to follow up on the joint cooperation projects between the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), delegations from both parties held a work and follow-up meeting at the facilities of the Ministry of Planning.
During his participation in this meeting, the Sectoral Vice President of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez, reported “we are going to hold workshops with the different ministries that are part of the areas of cooperation with the FAO in our country to strengthen our cooperation framework and make adjustments to it. that will take us to the year 2024 and 2030 as the immediate dates for the development of our relations”.
Meléndez stressed that the meeting addressed the formulation of the agenda for the coming years, in what is conceived as the cooperation framework between FAO and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, for which he stressed “we aspire that towards the World Day of Food we can be subscribing to this new framework of cooperation”.
After reiterating the commitment of the National Government to confront coercive measures, as well as the pandemic, he highlighted the resilience that the Venezuelan people have shown. “We have learned what the commitment of the Venezuelan State means to guarantee food for our people, to do everything possible and focus on a positive agenda.”
Projects between Venezuela and FAO
For his part, the FAO Representative to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Alexis Bonte, stated that “two joint projects will be developed, one with the Ministry of Agriculture on the creation of seeds, mainly cereals and legumes; and another with the Ministry of Education to reinforce technical agricultural schools”.
Likewise, Bonte indicated that together with the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosicialism they manage several projects, one in the Caroní Basin for Biodiversity and Indigenous Peoples, another project for the Andes region for the restoration of mountain landscapes, and in the future it is planned to have the project of the Green Climate Fund.
