Colombian President Iván Duque spoke for more than 15 minutes by phone with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodímir Zelenskiwho thanked him for the humanitarian aid that Colombia has provided to Ukraine in the midst of the humanitarian crisis that this country is experiencing after the Russian invasion.

“I am happy to contact Iván Duque. I thank Colombia for its humanitarian assistance and consolidation of South American countries in support of Ukraine. We agreed to start joint economic and defensive projects after the war.“, indicated the Ukrainian president after finishing the communication.

For his part, the Colombian head of state indicated that it was a “moving call” in which Colombia expressed its support for the Ukrainian government and reiterated his rejection of Russia’s actions.
“I want to express my solidarity on behalf of the entire Colombian people. We have condemned this brutal attack on humanity. You have our support, not only by condemning this horrible circumstance, this horrible attack, but we have also been contributing through humanitarian support and other mechanisms,” Duque told Zelensky during the call, which took place from Meta department.
He also told her that Colombia will continue to support Ukraine in all international instancesafter already sending 100,000 dollars as financial aid to address the humanitarian crisis that Ukrainian citizens are experiencing.
“We will continue to support your country, Mr. President. We will continue to support your sovereignty, the integrity of the territory and also support your people. You have been a great leader and your citizens are brave,” Duque told his counterpart.
At the end of the call, the president recounted more details of the conversation: “A few minutes ago we finished a call with the president of Ukraine that was moving because he has shown his courage in the face of Russia’s disproportionate attack, where human rights have not been respected ” .
He also said he is looking formobilize more Latin American countries to express our support and to mobilize more humanitarian aid”, since “Ukraine has been the victim of a vile attack, a disproportionate attack” by Russia and has suffered “bombing of hospitals and destruction of infrastructure”.
Finally, he added that the European nation “has been an example to the world in the defense of its people” and warned that “these acts of horror must end.”
