The House approved on Monday night (8) Senate amendments to the bill that increases the number of magistrates of five federal regional courts (TRFs) by transforming the vacant positions of substitute judge. Text goes to presidential approval.
With the approval of the text, in the TRF of the 1st Region, instead of four judge posts being used to create three magistrate posts, 19 vacant posts will be used to create 16 magistrate posts. Thus, the final number goes from the current 27 to 43.
In the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region, instead of transforming five vacant substitute judge posts into four magistrate posts, another approved amendment uses 14 vacant posts to create 12 magistrate posts. Thus, the current total increases from 43 to 55.
Region 1 TRF, instead of four judge positions being used to create three magistrate positions, 19 vacant positions will be used to create 16 magistrate positions. Thus, the final number goes from the current 27 to 43.
In the 3rd Region TRF, instead of transforming five vacant substitute judge posts into four magistrate posts, another approved amendment uses 14 vacant posts to create 12 magistrate posts. Thus, the current total increases from 43 to 55.
According to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), the changes do not lead to an increase in expenses. The STJ justified the change due to the increase in the number of cases in stock for judgment at the second instance.
