Between 200 and 300 pesos is paid for a simple car wash in the streets, some car wash they charge more expensive and include other services such as vacuum cleaning. The authorities have no control over the amount of Water which is used in laundries and some do not even care about the use of public space.
Recently, the caasd eliminated dozens of laundries improvised and irregular connections in the Cristo Rey sector, in the National District, to avoid the waste of thousands of gallons of Water up to date.
On Avenida de la Salud, in Mirador Sur, groups of washers used part of the road to clean cars, but this practice has been reduced almost to a minimum. However, there are still washers in neighborhoods such as Las Palmas, Enriquillo, and in the Rómulo Betancourt extension, in the Industrial zone of Herrera, in West Santo Domingo.
Similarly on Antonio Guzmán avenue and José Francisco Peña Gómez street of Invivienda, Los Mina Sur and Cancino, in Santo Domingo Este; in the expansions La Fe and Luperón, Villa María, Villa Consuelo, Villa Juana, Capotillo, La Zurza and Cristo Rey in the National District.
In East Santo Domingo, Mayor Manuel Jiménez managed to eliminate a long laundry room that existed on the Iberoamericana Avenue that borders the Columbus Lighthouse and the Parque del Este in the southern part. This place was a permanent sink for many years.
Since last year, the Mayor’s Office had notified about 75 launderers that they should abandon this practice and then they were evicted with the accompaniment of the public force. Those affected confronted the police and burned tires.
