To seal a decisive difference in the presidential elections of 2023, the opposition sector decided to focus their projects through the National Coalition, as it is the only probable way to unify the diversity of works and ideas. However, far from achieving that ideological, partisan and labor amalgamation, the opposition seems to be more divided and according to the lawyer, constitutionalist and former president of the Chamber of Senators, Carlos Mateo Balmelli, there are serious risks if the agreement is not implemented.

“I think that unfortunately, there is a great disorientation within the opposition, when Paraguay needs a dissidence by 2023 that could mean a government alternative to the Colorado Party,” said lawyer Mateo Balmelli. In turn, he spoke of what could be observed in the political arena if the aforementioned is not achieved: seeing the Colorados themselves as the opposition.
Likewise, the analyst observed that the concertation seems invertebrate, with opponents who do not have any type of solid structure that unifies the masses.
“It is good that people launch themselves, but the important thing is that they do it in a common setting. On the other hand, the Colorado Party looks very strong, due to the state matrix that would be the origin of its strength, since it is not simply the party in power, but the one that is in power,” said the specialist.
Within the point, he pointed out that in the opposition force each one goes for his own, as a kind of selfishness, forgetting that the agreement is a project that transcends the individual to overcome the angles of particular interests. For this reason, if it is not seen as a collective project, it will hardly be consolidated.
“I do not see that all the protagonists of the parties meet, that they are doing their conventions, nor is there any talk of financial reengineering to know how the convention will be supported, among other aspects. Leadership is not being exercised,” he pointed out.
INDECISIONS
With several strong candidacies forming the concertation, citizens observe a range of opportunities that, taking into account the electoral time, instead of offering a fixed and unifying coalition, could widen the gap between the colorados and dissidents due to the almost null collective agreement to present the plan in the elections.
The pre-candidate for the presidency for the Liberal Party, Hugo Fleitas, indicated that the moment in which the agreement is found is the correct process to carry out the road to 2023.

He stressed that they have the opportunities they did not have in 2013 and 2018, where an absolute unity among the opponents was not adopted or decided. “It is a reality that we are pressed for time so that the concertation becomes a reality, but we have until June of this year to register it. Although we are a little behind, the important thing is the decision of the main referents to unite and make the changes of the alternation, ”he stressed.
Dr. Fleitas stated that, at least on his part, he will ensure the unity not only of all sectors, but also of his own party in order to reach the next presidential elections without cracks. He also expressed that he is constantly talking with various referents to make a coalition possible.
“For my duo I do not rule out any role model, we are considering Foreign Minister Euclides Acevedo because he is a person who can give a lot to the country. We will be making the final decision later, ”he clarified.
Despite this, one factor that cannot be ignored is the constant indefiniteness of all the opponents to present themselves as a unifying force, since the president of the Febrerista Revolutionary Party himself said that the deputy Kattya González, pre-candidate for the presidency, is disinterested to talk about the plans for agreement with said movement.
This is not to mention that the Guasu Front itself, which at the time showed itself to be an undeniable complement in the elections, has not yet finished defining whether or not it will be part of the agreement for 2023. While the dissidents themselves continue to highlight their divisions, the Colorado Party is getting stronger.
According to the latest information, the senator for the Guasu Front, Sixto Pereira, will present his candidacy this Saturday for the presidency of the Republic.
