“The reason for this initiative was explained to them and apparently they felt cared for and satisfied because it is not true that the initiative has to do with promoting dirty energy, it is not true that we do not care about producing solar energy, wind energy, energy with water in the hydroelectric plants,” said the federal president.
The points reported by the president with the US official and his entourage do not include the supposed formation of a follow-up group for his electricity reform initiative, as Kerry initially announced.
Here we present the 10 points that López Obrador addressed with Kerry, with whom he met for the third time in less than six months:
1.- Import permits. The Mexican government promised to respect the fuel introduction permits of five companies: ExxonMobil, Valero, Koch, Shell and Tesoro, as long as they offer fair prices and legality; that is, do not sell huachicol or smuggle.
As a “goodwill gesture,” the government offered to withdraw complaints and close the fuel terminals, however, it warned that if huachicol practices are detected, criminal sanctions will be applied.
2.- No new permits will be granted. Since the purpose of the electricity reform initiative is to strengthen the CFE, no new permits will be issued to participate in power generation.
“We want to achieve energy self-sufficiency and strengthen Pemex and the CFE; that is, public companies will have priority for the good of the people and the nation, ”he commented.
