Holy Week, a path towards Easter

Holy Week, a path towards Easter

A whole week. From Sunday to Sunday. Come to the Church and revive the teachings that Jesus Christ left. Sunday April 10 is Palm Day and April 17 is Easter.remember that, according to the Catholic calendar, Holy Week is the most important celebration of the year, along with Christmas.

“We are in the center of the liturgical year, where we relive the decisive moments of our redemption. The Church leads us by the hand, with her wisdom and her creativity from Palm Sunday to the cross and from there to the Lord’s resurrection”, explains Roberto Thames, parish priest emeritus of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen parish.

The priest explains what to do every day in this special week, to fully live the faith. Also Campanas, news and current affairs site of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, on Facebook, traces the path of the faithful.

Many Catholics only have in mind the tour of the churches that takes place on Holy Thursday, however, every day has a meaningwhich should be remembered and meditated on as a family.

The meaning of each holy day

Palm Sunday. It is the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. It is the presentation that the Lord makes of himself as the desired and expected messiah. The celebrations in Catholic temples entail a special ceremony with the blessing of the palms, as a sign of welcome to Jesus Christ and to this week of recollection.

Holy Monday. Jesus goes to Bethany, where he used to stay on his visits to Jerusalem. His friends María and Lázaro always have a place for him and his family. You start the work week with the intention of living in meditation and good actions. I transmitted to your family the faith and beliefs of the religion you profess.

Holy Tuesday. The gospel of the mass of this third day[1]mine with the announcement that the apostles would leave Christ alone during the passion. He says to Peter: I assure you that before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times. Preparation day for the Easter Triduum, which is the period that goes from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday.

Holy Wednesday. Penitential Day, in each temple confessions are made according to schedules agreed with the community of neighbors. The sad betrayal of the apostle Judas is remembered. Why does the Church remind us? So that we realize that we can all behave like Judas and we will always be forgiven if we repent.

Holy Thursday. Easter celebration for the elderly, sick and disabled. The Lord’s Last Supper is the day of the institution of the Holy Eucharist of the priesthood and the commandment of love. (Jesus was going to offer his life and his love was so great, that in his infinite wisdom he found a way to leave and stay at the same time).

Holy Friday. The death of Jesus on the cross is one of the most representative and profound commemorations of Christianity. Mass is not celebrated, and instead there is the liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (Preaching of the 7 words. Unlocking of Jesus. Celebration of the Lord’s Passion, prayer before the holy sepulcher and wake).

Holy Saturday. Day of silence, Christ lies in the tomb and the Church meditates in admiration for what the Lord has done for us. He keeps silent and learn from the teacher. Solemn Easter Vigil at night, in the parishes and temples of the city and the provinces.

Easter Sunday. The joy of the ringing of the bells and the hallelujahs that resound in the temples express our joy for the triumph of Christ over death. Jesus has risen! This is the so-called Easter Day. Great celebration of rejoicing for Catholics around the world.
