Executive and Cálidda seek to accelerate massification of natural gas due to the rise in fuel prices

The President of the Council of Ministers, Vásquez, met this Thursday with the directors of the Cálidda company, the main gas distributor in Peru, in order to exchange ideas in order to achieve the mass use of natural gas in the country.

During the meeting, which also included the participation of the Ministers of Energy and Mines, Carlos Palacios; Environment, Modesto Montoya; and Culture, Alejandro Salas, the progress of household connections in Lima and Callao was explained and it was made clear that this network was prioritized in the districts with the lowest resources, since those who most needed it were there.

It was indicated that in Lima, for example, there are currently 1.3 million homes connected to natural gas, but there is a network that can facilitate the connection of 1.7 new homes. In addition, new pilot plans are being evaluated to reach the hills in the capital, in a joint effort with the College of Engineers of Peru.

Faced with this, Prime Minister Torres asked the directors of Cálidda and all those involved to reach consensus and propose a solution to the coverage problems that may arise and that do not allow the massification of gas, given the current difficult world situation due to the rise in fuel prices.

Conversion of transport to CNG

The representatives of the natural gas distribution company pointed out that another line that should be promoted is the conversion of transport to vehicular natural gas (NGV), as this can also generate significant savings and help the environment.

The head of the Ministerial Cabinet asked Cálidda and the supervising entities to pay attention to the vehicle conversion centers, since some do not provide an efficient service.

He also promised to promote the vehicle conversion of the cars and trucks used by the state apparatus, since allowing a percentage of them to use CNG would allow savings of up to one million dollars per month, according to Cálidda directors.
