The meeting, which began on March 28, brought together delegations from 33 countries, who held several work sessions aimed at evaluating issues related to proposals to improve the agri-food systems of these peoples.
The first two days of the meeting were for senior officials, who advanced proposals for greater efficiency and sustainability, in addition to contributing to the ministerial work plan.
On Wednesday, after an official opening ceremony led by the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, and the Director General of the FAO, Qu Dongyu, the debates of the ministers began.
The four improvements (production, nutrition, environment and life), the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as proposals to face the current crises in agricultural matters and the Multi-year Work Program of the Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean for 2022-2025.
Likewise, those present elaborated the new Strategy of the organization regarding climate change, among other topics of interest.
The participating countries in the 37th FAO Regional Conference were Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela were also present.
