With a financing of $75 million dollars through a collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Development Bank of Latin America, the Specialized Higher Technical Institute (ITSE) will be able to enhance its academic development and the governance of this short-cycle higher education center, according to the Vice President of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency, José Gabriel Carrizo Jaén.
Carrizo Jaén explained that they are managing a supplementary credit for $8 million that will allow the digital school to start up, the hiring of specialized teachers to increase the capacities of the ITSE and receive 150% more students, as well as the opening of the night shift, which It will allow to increase the educational offer for Panamanians.
During the signing of an educational collaboration agreement between ITSE and the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP), Carrizo Jaén stressed that this agreement “promotes academic excellence based on science, technology and innovation, focused on training comprehensive group of professionals with knowledge, skills and competencies who perform efficiently in the productive sectors and provide solutions to national problems”.
As part of the agreement, a pilot plan for “Higher Education for Specialized Technical Training – Industry Academy” will be developed.
Milena Gómez Cedeño, educational manager of ITSE, explained that the aforementioned pilot plan “promotes professional training under the collaborative learning program for students in real learning environments developed in companies.”
The agreement represents a transcendental step for education, which is the star of the National Government, as a fundamental factor for the development of the country, by closing the gaps of inequality and poverty, in compliance with the purposes of the Bicentennial Pact.
José Ramón Icaza, president of the CCIAP, stated that “the work carried out at ITSE is really important, and for this reason we have committed ourselves to supporting them in whatever is within our reach so that this educational institution fulfills its purpose of training human resource specialized in technical areas necessary for the development of the productive sectors of the country”.
“That push that we need to give to education is what we are achieving today with the important contribution of the private sector that, once again, is involved in collaborative actions to move our country forward,” said Carrizo Jaén.
