The Ministry of Finance celebrated that Colombia was awarded the Green Bond of the Year award, in the sovereign category, in the Bond Awards 2022 of the publication Environmental Finance.

The recognition was granted after, in 2021, Colombia made its first broadcast of Green TES for $1.5 billion to finance expenses included in the General Budget of the Nation, associated with a portfolio of green projects.
Thus, the country becomes the second Latin American nation to issue sovereign green bonds and the first to do so in local currency.

The recognition to Colombia in this category has been granted in other years to Poland, France, Indonesia, Chile and Germany.
“This award recognizes the efforts made by the government to strengthen strategies that allow compliance with the country’s commitments prioritized in the National Development Plan, the Paris Agreement, the Framework Convention on Biological Diversity and the Sustainable Development Goals, among others.“, highlighted the Ministry.
