A delegation from the Association of Former Political Prisoners of Uruguay – Crysol, made up of Gastón Grisoni, José Pedro Olivera, Carlos López, Roberto Herrera and Waldir Tabarez, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Bustillo, and authorities from the Foreign Ministry.
Crysol reported, through a statement, that it was a “relaxed” instance in which the implementation of the sentence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) in the “Maidanik et al” case was addressed.
In December 2021, the IACHR declared the Uruguayan State “internationally responsible for human rights violations, for the disappearances of Luis Eduardo González and Óscar Tassino, and the murders of Diana Maidanik, Silvia Reyes and Laura Raggio (Girls of April) that occurred in dictatorship.
With the name “April Girls” the execution of the young Diana Maidanik, Silvia Reyes and Laura Raggio riddled by members of the Joint Forces in 1974 is remembered.
In this sense, the Foreign Ministry undertook to comply with the sentence and recognize the responsibility of the State in a public act.
For his part, the director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Mata, presented a plan to comply with the recommendations and an execution schedule.
INDDHH
Crysol positively valued the government support that has been provided to the Human Rights and Ombudsman Institution (INDDHH) for the search for disappeared detainees and emphasized the need for both Dr. Wilder Tayler and Dr. Mariana Mota to continue to be involved. on the subject when the authorities of the INDDHH change.
Other issues raised by Crysol was the need to strengthen the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor for Crimes Against Humanity and to comply with the remedial recommendations of the United Nations Special Rapporteurs.
