Sales by the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry totaled R$ 21.8 billion in February, a drop of 2.9% compared to the same month last year. Compared to January, however, there was an increase of 8.5%.
Year-to-date, January and February, sales totaled R$ 41.9 billion, 3.9% lower than in the same period in 2021. The data, released today (30), are from the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment (Abimaq).
“The numbers observed in the first two months of the year indicate that the deceleration of industrial activity, which began in the last quarter of 2021, mainly in sectors linked to household consumption, continue to negatively impact productive investments in some segments”, highlighted the entity in the released balance sheet. .
The sector sold abroad, in February, R$ 878.5 million in equipment, an amount 37.8% higher than that registered in the same month of 2021. In relation to January, exports were 22.3% higher. In the accumulated result for the year, January and February, foreign sales totaled R$1.59 billion, 31.7% above the same period last year.
“The machinery and equipment manufacturing sector, with an exporting tradition, recovered with the devaluation of the real part of the competitiveness annulled by the ‘Brazil cost’, and recorded significant growth in its exports”.
Latin America was the main destination for Brazilian exports of machinery and equipment in 2022, with a share of 28.5%; followed by the United States (23.2%) and Europe (17.4%).
