Lucy Molinar on the right to reply: “It is dangerous for the political class to legislate on journalism”

The journalist and former Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, analyzed Bill 779, which modifies Law 22 of June 29, 2005 on the right to reply in the media, an initiative of Deputy Zulay Rodríguez.

In Molinar’s opinion, the debate on this issue should be depersonalized, “we have a very nice opportunity to correct what we have been doing wrong. We are in the country of no man’s land, and if we are talking about the right to reply it is because we have not complied, I do not think there is a need to legislate on the subject.

She affirmed that the media have too great a responsibility to reach this point in which a person “like her (Zulay Rodríguez), dares to present a right to reply law.”

He is of the opinion that the replica is the most delicious element of this profession, because when you can put all the parts on the table and a debate takes place, you are fulfilling your mission.

“When you are in search of the truth you have the obligation, even to open your space to those who do not want to listen. What matters is telling the truth. The great danger is that I manipulate public opinion and lead it like a sheep to where I want, under the pretext that this is my medium and I do what I want with it. Journalism is a profession of service,” said the communicator, adding that it is dangerous for the political class to get involved in legislating in journalism, since “in every country that has gotten involved in legislating, it has been a disaster.”
