The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, met in the last few hours with the ministers that make up the productive cabinet, in order to analyze solutions to a scale of price increases for products in the food basket.
In statements to the press, Lacalle announced that the government decided to exempt from Value Added Tax (VAT) to baked goods, noodles and the like, both domestic and imported.
At the same time, the head of state said that the government is analyzing the import regime for certain products and will advance on tariff issues, such as oils.
A few days ago, the Parliament unanimously approved a bill of the Executive which exempts from the Value Added Tax (VAT), 10%, to a certain cut of beef roast intended for consumption. The government also agreed to lower the price of eggs.

This Wednesday, Lacalle received in his office in the Executive Tower the senator from Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini Ríos, who proposed that the government seek an agreement with businesses and large stores to maintain the price of a basket of food products, accompanied by a tax waiver, to face the escalation of international prices.
