Relatives of eight prisoners held in La Pica, Monagas, sent a communication to the Ombudsman’s Office, Monagas delegation, expressing their concern because they ordered a repeat trial of their relatives.
These people are allegedly involved in a plan to kidnap Diosdado Cabello and hand him over to the United States.
Currently the criminal process is being carried out in the 4th Trial Court of Monagas, where 22 hearings have been held. But on March 24 there was a rotation of judges and they ordered a repeat trial, explained the relatives in a communication addressed to the Ombudsman’s Office.
In that case, Judge Mayra Alejandra Febres leaves and Laura Velásquez enters. This March 30 marks two years since the arrest of these eight people for the alleged commission of the crimes of treason, creation of armed groups, association to commit crimes, among others.
The relatives of these detainees consider that the resumption of the trial represents a delay that is detrimental to the right to obtain an expeditious justice, as contemplated by the Magna Carta.
The defendants are identified as Luis Eduardo Villarroel Caña, Carlos Alejandro Pérez Farías, César Horacio Belfort Rojas, Daniel Enrique Aguilera Gutiérrez, Víctor José Farías Quijada, Francisco José Marcano Benavides, Enrique Naurix Parada, José Ramón Cruz Marcano and Gabriel Andrés Medina. The latter died in prison during the month of August 2021.
