They sentenced in Costa Rica to excure for rape and sexual abuse

When reading the sentence, the president of the collegiate, Ana Patricia Mora, pointed out that by unanimous decision they decided to declare Víquez responsible for a crime of aggravated rape and sexual abuse to the detriment of the victim with the surname Alvarado.

He specified that for sexual abuse, he was sentenced to six years in prison and 14 more years for the crime of aggravated rape against a minor, for a total of 20 years in prison, eight less than those requested this Tuesday by the Prosecutor’s Office General.

Mora added that Víquez was absolved of all punishment and responsibility for a reclassified aggravated rape crime that had been attributed to him.

The members of the Court confirmed that the abuse and rape occurred between July and September 2003, in the San Juan Bautista church in Patarrá de Desamparados, of which Víquez was the parish priest, since in all instances, the offended party recounted the events similar, both in the forensic psychological examination and judicial complaints.

According to the story, due to his difficult economic situation, when he was 11 years old, the victim went to ask for a job at the church where the former priest worked, who paid him with daily food, which was significant for his low-income family, and that on three occasions he was sexually assaulted by Víquez.

After the sentence, Alvarado told the press “the ghost that he had carried since he was 12 years old disappeared” and recalled that when he made the complaint he had positive expectations because he always indicated the truth of the events that happened to him and today the Court believed him in its entirety.

“This is a difficult situation because it encompasses a lot of sentimentality and memories. I was just 11 years old, I already went through that stage and I have been healing, little by little, thanks to the support of my wife and children,” said Alvarado, 30 years old.

On his side, defense attorney Rodolfo Alvarado expressed his satisfaction with the Court’s ruling; very formal, correct and adjusted to right. “The sentence of 20 years in prison against a person who harmed many is going to set a precedent,” he stressed.
