The Government condemned and described as “very serious” the events that occurred yesterday in the framework of a new commemoration of the Day of the Young Combatant, which resulted in 55 detainees and 78 acts of violence.
One of these situations was the admission of a group of people to an apartment in the district of Santiago Centro. The problem originated when the owner of the property, while intoxicated, began to insult the protesters in the sector, who upon noticing, went up to the building, broke the subject’s door, beat him and threw his furniture and belongings through of the window.
As a result of this, the undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, condemned the fact, anticipating that they will take action against those responsible.
“We will sue those who are responsible. It is unacceptable that they enter a private home to attack and loot,” he said. Along the same lines, Monsalve said that the safety of people “is something that we must guarantee.”
The general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, said that the acts of violence were “extremely fast”, but a special team, after being notified, arrived in the sector to help the victims. In any case, he concluded that “there were no detainees regarding this procedure.”
