In the case of corn and wheat, the increase in costs is related to fuel and fertilizer production.
Canacintra points out that the cost of corn has increased more than 44%, while wheat suffers a rise of 22%.
Esteban Chavoya, president of the Agroindustrial Sector of Canacintra explains that the relationship between fuel, fertilizers and the rise in the cost of wheat and corn is that farmers in the field have to pay more to cover the cost of the first two, which ultimately ends up raising production costs.
Canacitra’s representative explained that currently producers have to spend more than 24,000 pesos to buy a ton of fertilizers; there are even those who have had to buy them for over 30,000 pesos.
Chavoya pointed out that, although the problem of the increase in production costs of both inputs was already something that was seen, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine deepened it.
