Workers from the Municipal Urban Cleaning Company of Rio de Janeiro (Comlurb) have been on strike since yesterday afternoon (28). The street sweepers demand replacement of 25% of salary losses, payment of the unhealthy work premium for certain functions and completion of the plan for positions, careers and salaries. The Conservation Company Employees Union (Siemaco) ensures that essential services are maintained, such as cleaning hospitals, schools and street markets.
“Our category has not received any readjustment for three years, without however having stopped helping the population, in the cleaning and cleanliness of the city, including hospital units, even in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, exposing itself daily in compliance This is, therefore, the moment of recognition on the part of the city hall of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the direction of Comlurb, especially when one takes into account that the claim of the category is nothing more than the replacement of inflation for the period”, says a statement from the union.
freezing
According to the entity, salaries have been frozen since 2020 and a 25% readjustment would be necessary to cover the inflation of the last three years. The 5% proposal offered by the company’s management, less than half of the inflation rate of the last 12 months, was rejected at the meeting.
The negotiations have been dragging on since the beginning of the month. Five days ago, the street sweepers approved the strike in assembly. Initially, it was scheduled to start at midnight yesterday (28). However, at the request of Comlurb’s management, judge Edith Tourinho, from the Regional Labor Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRT-RJ), granted an injunction considering the abusive stoppage, since it was called when the parties were still seeking to evolve in the negotiations. She prohibited the outbreak of the strike, fixed a fine of R$ 200 thousand in case of non-compliance and scheduled a conciliation hearing for 11 am yesterday (28).
The street sweepers retreated at first and waited for the meeting. But as there was no agreement, the strike movement started after the hearing. In a statement, Comlurb regretted the category’s decision and maintains that it is illegal. Comlurb informed that a next conciliation hearing at TRT-RJ was agreed for Thursday (31), at 11 am.
