Hair loss can have multiple causes or factors within dermatology, which is why specialists recommend evaluating cases and carrying out the relevant check-ups.
Some of these causes may be due to nutritional deficiency, lack of zinc, trace elements, autoimmune diseases such as lupus or any active collagen disease that causes this hair loss, sometimes localized such as alopecia areata.
Dr. Rosalba Riveros, Specialist of the Chair and Service of Dermatology of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNA, explained that hair loss can occur at any age, both in women and men.
“Sometimes the fungi, scales and inflammation of the area are favored mostly in children, hair loss is also systemic, being in a context of decompensated diseases, hormonal origin or stress”, indicated the professional.
The scalp is not always affected by hair loss, but when the cause is seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema, this causes it. If this condition is improved, hair loss also decreases.
It should be taken into account that, during pregnancy, postpartum and lactation, women can lose their hair, also those people who are in hospital, infectious, viral conditions such as post covid, post surgery or situations that generate emotional and whole-body stress.
If it is telogen effluvium, which causes the fall due to infectious conditions or stress, supplements containing biotin, B complexes, are given either orally or topically.
On the other hand, cysteine or zinc supplementation are also part of the treatment used, as well as topical minoxidil.
It should be emphasized that there are other types of alopecia, such as androgenic alopecia with genetic and hormonal causes, causing baldness in men and appearing in the post-menopausal stage in women. There is also fibrosing alopecia, which mainly affects the frontal area of the hair, causing it to grow increasingly backwards.
