Ancho, Hermelinda and Camacho aspire to the TSJE

At midnight yesterday, Monday, the registration deadline for those interested in being ministers of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) expired. At the close of this edition, there were 32 applicants, among which stand out; Hermelinda Alvarenga and Salyn Buzarquis, senators for the PLRA, Juan Bartolomé Ramírez, former senator for the PLRA (2018 to 2022) and Emilio Camacho, former senator for the Encuentro Nacional party (PEN) (2003 to 2008).

April 6 will be the public hearing and April 19 will be the exam. There are two vacancies.

ALVARENGA
Hermelinda Alvarenga, a national senator for the PLRA, stated that she meets all the requirements to run for the position.

When asked about the resignation of her colleague Juan Bartolomé “Ancho” Ramírez, who resigned from the Senate to be elected as Minister of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE), showing great confidence that he will be elected, she pointed out that this only represents the vision of the legislator, and not necessarily reality.

“I clarify that I will not resign. I have the people’s vote of confidence. That does not prevent me from continuing as a senator. If access to the position, of course I will resign from the position of Senator, “she said.

Alvarenga points out that, in her role as a woman, she can contribute many things to the TSJE.

“We want to be the complement for consensus and decision-making. If they are all men, the position of women will be missing, ”she pointed out.

Finally, when asked about alleged links she has with Horacio Cartes, former President of the Republic, she stated that such statements are in no way real.

“I have no inclination towards anyone. I am a senator by popular vote. I categorically deny. I am from the Liberal Party and I do not owe my participation to anyone, ”she concluded.

Alvarenga has a doctorate in Law and International Relations, a lawyer and a doctorate in Educational Sciences. She teaches from 2008 to date. She also does legal advice.

CAMACHO
Emilio Camacho, former senator for the Encuentro Nacional party (PEN), pointed out that he is not supported by any party. That is, he presents himself in a personal capacity.

“The TSJE must comply with what the National Constitution says; independence, impartiality and objectivity. That is what we offer in case of triation. We do not answer to any party, ”he expressed.
Finally, he said that he will contribute impartiality, work and experience to the TSJE if he is elected.

“It is a position that requires knowledge, independence and objectivity, but above all firmness to apply the resolutions. The Court is the custodian body of the popular sovereignty that is expressed at the polls”, he concluded.

Camacho is a lawyer, he was a municipal councilor, a senator, a legal adviser to the presidency during the government of Fernando Lugo, deputy comptroller of the Republic, just to cite part of his resume.

TWO QUOTS
The TSJE will have two vacancies this year. They are Vice President Alberto Ramírez Zambonini, and member María Elena Wapenka. The former will turn 75 on April 22. While the minister will reach that age on the following May 14. The first quota corresponds to the PLRA while the second must be disputed for the matches of the third space.

The TSJE has only three members, the third is Jaime Bestard who belongs to the ANR (chartist) and is the current president of the organization. 29
