A 21-year-old patient, diagnosed with femoral aseptic bone necrosis, benefited from highly complex surgery.
“The intervention was the first of its kind at the Hospital de Clínicas of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNA; which consisted of prosthetic hip joint replacement, with a short stem prosthesis, in a young patient, with bone necrosis, which is the death of bone tissue, due to the lack of blood supply”, explained Dr. Miguel Arza Fernández, Head of Hip Surgery in Room XI.
The boy is in very good post-surgical condition, and in the recovery stage in the Arthroplasty Room of Room XI of the hospital.
This type of hip prosthesis enables the preservation of the bone stock, and was specially designed for young patients.
