Veolia exceeds 2,800 km of drinking water networks in the country

After having inaugurated the first wastewater treatment plant (Ptar) in the Colombian Caribbean, the public services operator and French multinational Veolia announced that it reached 2,870 km of drinking water networks nationwide, which are equivalent to 2 times the distance from the department of Narino to Sincelejo, in Sucre.

With this infrastructure, more than 99 million cubic meters are supplied
annually, as well as capturing more than 79 million m3 of surface water and 34 million m3 of groundwater each year. And it is used by about 1.3 million Colombians.

“This achievement is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6, which seeks the preservation of water resources to provide clean water and basic sanitation. We ratify our commitment to dignify the lives of Colombians through a quality drinking water service“, affirmed Manuel Vicente Barrera, Director of Operations of Aguas de Veolia.

The expansion in the coverage of the supply, adds to the service of sbasic sewage treatment also provided by the company. This is present in 15 municipalities, has treatment plants and systems, more than 2,000 km of networks and benefits approximately 1.1 million citizens.

“Unlike services such as electricity, which are one way, water is a two-way good, that is, it requires both supply and collection and treatment. Along these lines, efforts to expand coverage must be supported by proportional investments in sanitation; this led us to allocate $45,000 million in December to build the first Ptar in the Colombian CaribbeanBarrier concluded.
