A Venezuelan political strategist allegedly threatened to shoot “out the door” of his luxury Miami apartment in order not to receive a subpoena in a civil lawsuit filed by a former US Green Beret he hired as part of a plot to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. according to what was said in a hearing in court on Monday.
Jordan Goudreau filed a lawsuit against JJ Rendón in October 2020 demanding $1.4 million, alleging breach of contract after Rendón backed away from a plan he briefly championed on behalf of the Venezuelan opposition to remove Maduro with the help de Goudreau, three-time Bronze Star awardee and veteran of the Iraq War.
Still, Goudreau went ahead with the plan, traveling to Colombia to help train a diverse army of volunteers in secret camps set up by deserters from the Venezuelan military. Operation Gideon ended with the death of six insurgents and the imprisonment in Caracas of two former Goudreau comrades in the Special Forces.
Goudreau and Silvercorp USA, his Florida-based company, accuse Rendón of breaching the agreement they had signed to arrest, capture or overthrow Maduro and put in his place Juan Guaidó, whom the governments of the United States and dozens of countries Allies recognize him as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
The case has been stalled since Goudreau filed his 133-page lawsuit, which reads like a Netflix-worthy series full of intrigue involving everything from clandestine airstrips to advisers to former US Vice President Mike Pence.
During a hearing Monday in Miami, Goudreau’s attorney said the reason the case has not moved forward is because Rendon has repeatedly and willfully refused to accept the subpoena, a basic first step in any civil lawsuit.
According to Goudreau, a court-certified process server tried to hand-deliver a summons seven times beginning in August 2021—nearly 10 months after the lawsuit was filed—by knocking on the door of Rendon’s downtown apartment. from Miami, without getting a response.
In the most recent attempt, which occurred on October 25 at 8:30 p.m., the doorman at the entrance of the building informed him that Rendón had sent word that he would “shoot through the door” if it rang again, according to with an affidavit that was filed before Monday’s hearing.
