Government: DR exceeds US$12,000 million in exports

From the National Palace, the President of the Republic Louis Abinader announced this Monday that the Dominican Republic has surpassed the barrier of 12,000 million dollars in exports in the year 2021 and, since the National Plan for the Promotion of Exportson November 4, 2020.

In the presence of Biviana Ribeiro, director of ProDominicana, and other officials linked to the export sector, the head of state considered the 12,483.3 million dollars collected.

“A little over a year ago, we said that it is time for exports, and it is time to act. We took a historic step by launching the National Plan for the Promotion of Exportsin which we put our cards on the table, making it clear what the 2030 vision of the Dominican export sector would be,” said the president.

“There we highlighted that this would constitute a milestone in the history of the commercial policy of the Dominican Republic and in 2021, the result of the exports It was a determining element for the post-pandemic economic recovery,” said Abinader.

Likewise, he valued the hard work of the exporters, and of all the agents linked to the export activity, considering that they connect the factories or plantations with the final consumer.

Abinader pointed out that small and medium-sized companies are the heart of the body that constitutes the productive fabric of an economy, so having companies that become global and that are born global will always be the driving force to boost the exports in the long run.

He said that, to achieve this growth, the government focused on the implementation of plans and strategies for the export of goods and services, relaunching the Export Free Zones.

“At the same time, we strengthened tourism, trade fairs and missions. Also, proactively, presidential meetings, international alliances, attraction of foreign direct investment, development of international projects, among many other actions,” he said.

For his part, Ribeiro stated that, through the National Plan for the Promotion of Exports 2020-2030, for the first time the Dominican State has a comprehensive look, around the exportsthe different plans, programs and projects of economic and social development.

“In the journey that we undertook, via the plan, 69 institutions are actively involved,” he said.

Of these, 34 coordinate or lead specific measures. In other words, we are setting an irreversible pattern on synergy and cooperation in the state. he added he.

“We achieved a significant increase of 21.1% in exports of goods by 2021, exceeding the proposed goal by 105%. A milestone never experienced in the history of exports Dominicans,” said the official.

He clarified that the exports nationals were 21%, exports Free Zones 22%, exports agricultural 7%, exports of minerals 8%, exports industrial 26%.

Products with the highest increase

Among the products that showed the greatest increase in exports there are cigars, jewelry items, electro-diagnostic devices, T-shirts and t-shirts, among other agricultural and local manufactured products that went to some 115 markets worldwide.

The president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Pedro Brache, expressed, upon leaving the event, that breaking the barrier of 12,000 million dollars in exports is an important milestone.

“This Promotion Plan for Exports developed between several institutions of the public and private sector is a guide to be able to follow this path of development of the exportsso important to the Dominican Republic,” Brache said.

He argued that the exports agriculture have doubled and he saw the outlook as hopeful.

He called for giving more added value to agricultural items when selling them.
