The Federation of Intercultural Peasants of Santa Cruz denied its participation in the cases of enslavement of land that are registered in the department, where the invaders identify themselves as members of this organization. In addition, the institution assured that no member of its sector intervened in the illegal seizure of a property seized in the municipality of Ascensión de Guarayos, where a 22-year-old man lost his life.
The sector carried out an expanded emergency on Sunday night, precisely in this municipality. The meeting brought together the departmental leadership that discussed the different land conflicts where they are alluded to.
“What happens is that they use our name and blame us for everything. The media brand us as the bad guysWe are not going to allow them to continue slandering us, they want to make us look bad”, said Elías Tejerina, departmental coordinator of the sector.
The leader argued that intercultural people are respectful of the rules that govern the country. Moreover, they assured that they settled in the province legally.
“We are the most peaceful and respectful of the law, proof of this is that to enter the Guarayos province, In 2019, we have had the permission of the Central Organization of Guarayo Native Peoples, Copnag, the deputy governor and the mayor,” he said.
The leader clarified that the sector has its area of action that is concentrated in the eastern part of this province. This space corresponds to the Villa Fátima commonwealth and not so in the extreme north, where it was the center of the confrontations.
“Our goal is “living well”, we do not overwhelm anyone and rather we contribute with our work and manage projects of collective interest before the national government”, he affirmed.
He added that intercultural groups are not only made up of people from the interior, but from different cultures of the country.
Ask them to identify themselves
Regarding the land conflict in San Antonio del Junte, the peasants who participated in this takeover were asked to identify themselves.
“They belong to another organization. They should identify themselves.” questioned the leader.
Three weeks ago a group of peasants seized the properties seized from the North American businessman, Jacob Ostreicherand demanded that the Government revert these lands in their favor.
However, another group of people, who was not identified, tried to evict them violently. As a result of the fray, a 22-year-old man lost his life.
This fact caused the peasants to install a blockade that lasted six days on the road to Beni. Later, on Saturday, they gave a tailored intermediate room until March 29.
