A group of Nicaraguans in Canada broke into an activity promoted by representatives of the Daniel Ortega dictatorship on Saturday, March 26. In an act held at the Montreal Conference Center, the regime’s delegates presented Nicaragua’s tourist offer, avoiding the continuous repression faced by the nation.
At the time of Nicaragua’s participation, with banners in their hands, the opponents demanded the freedom of all political prisoners, denounced the violations of human rights, the mismanagement of the pandemic and the insecurity that the country means for tourists in the current conditions.

The Nicaraguan ambassador to Canada was present at the “express picket line”, Maurizio Gelli, of Italian origin, who, according to the activist Bertha María Garay, quickly left the place.
In addition, the opponents denounced that the diplomat’s wife dedicated herself to photographing the compatriots who spoke out against the dictatorship.
«The presenter for Nicaragua became very nervous and at times she stopped because she did not know what was happening. Nicaragua’s presentation was the last of the day, so there were not many people in the place, but when visitors from other kiosks saw what was happening, they rushed to take photos and ask what was happening, very surprised, they began to ask questions of the self-convened » reported the opponents.

The conveners consider that the brief civic activity was a success, “it was achieved with the aim of making it known that Nicaragua is experiencing a dictatorship, that there are many political prisoners (more than 177) at serious risk of death and that at this time it is not convenient to visit Nicaragua».
After the protest, the self-convened Nicaraguans were expelled by the security of the place, under the excuse that it was not a place to carry out these acts.
Canada is one of the countries in the international community that has condemned the repression unleashed by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. On January 10, a few hours after Daniel Ortega was officially installed in power for another five years, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, described the inauguration as illegitimate and, therefore, the mandate of the dictator from Nicaragua.
Regarding the new sanctions against officials of the Government of Daniel Ortega, Canada has “welcomed the decisive actions taken by its international partners, including the United States and the European Union, and will continue to work with them to obtain support and exert pressure. on the regime to restore democracy and respect human rights.
