Minem: electricity production grew 5.4% in February

The total production of electrical energy registered throughout the country in February of this year, including the Isolated Systems and the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN), amounted to 4,686 gigawatt hours (GWh), which meant an increase of 5.4% compared to the same month of 2021, reported the

According to official statistics, of the total generated, 96% (4,518 GWh) went to the national electricity market and 4% (169 GWh) was for own use.

The Minem indicated that this increase in electricity production was based, mainly, on the country’s economic reactivation due to the various industries that have been operating with strict biosecurity measures, promoted by the national government to counteract the COVID-19 pandemic. .

In the technical report called “Main Indicators of the National Electricity Market”, it is specified that the generation plants, which are part of the SEIN, produced 4,507 GWh in February, a value 5.2% higher than that generated in the same month of 2021.

Regarding the origin of electricity generation, the statistical data establish that the hydroelectric plants produced 3,057 GWh in February, that is, 1% more than the production of the same month of 2021; while, on the side of the thermal units, they registered a production of 1,439 GWh, that is, 15% less than that generated in the same period last year.

Likewise, regarding generation with non-conventional renewable energy resources (solar, wind, bagasse and biogas), the Minem DGE indicated that in February it accumulated a production of 229 GWh, an amount of energy that represented 4.9% of the national production. during the analyzed season.
