After the results of the referendum against the 135 articles of the LUC slowly became known, and after the trend in favor of “No” stabilized, the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, spoke and called on the government to “see the shock that you just had.”

“What can be said clearly is that one half of Uruguayan society does not agree with this form of legislation,” Pereira said in dialogue with TVCity.

“It should be a signal taken regardless of the end result. If it were a majority, we would repeal a law, but if it were not, the government has to take note of the central aspects that were taken in the campaign,” added the president of the leftist force.

He does not believe that the government came to this instance with the same support from the citizens that it had in the first round of 2019. Lacalle Pou, Pereira understands, “should think about whether dialogue is not an adequate mechanism.”

“A social dialogue is required. That unions, businessmen, retirees and parties be summoned to discuss the perspective of security and social protection 30 or 40 years from now”, he continued.
