Las Bambas: workers protest because utilities do not meet their expectations

The mining company MMG in the Apurímac region, faces a new protest and this time not by the community members, but by the workers who rejected the amounts paid in relation to their profits, because they did not meet their expectations.

Thus, on Saturday, March 26, they carried out a 24-hour strike in protest against the amounts paid by the mining company.

In a statement, the single union of mining workers pointed out that these profits have been waiting for it since the beginning of the operational phase of Las Bambas (2016), however, the company has been taking advantage of permissive benefits granted by the State, hurting workers’ profit sharing for almost six years.

Our employer has made this payment for the first time, however, the amounts paid do not meet expectations. We reject this refusal of the company despite having been benefiting from the non-payment of utilities to workers since 2016″, they indicated.

In addition, the union pointed out that it is incomprehensible for the workers the company’s lack of willingness and initiative to compensate these discouraging figures in recognition of their work, as well as the time that has passed without receiving this benefit.

“Even more so if, within the calculation of profits, the days stopped working for various reasons beyond the control of the workers, such as isolation by COVID-19 and stoppages in the 2021 financial year, have been deducted,” mentioned.

The union specified that on March 25 they held a meeting with the Superintendent of Human Resources at the mine, but ratified their closed position of the company to open a possible consensus and shape a compensatory mechanism for workers in a conventional way as many headlines do. mining.
