Regarding the elimination of the Senate and the criticism of the independent senator Fabiola Campillai, Minister Jackson said that “I do not agree that it is the place (the Senate) where things are stopped.”
Along these lines, he stated that “the government is willing to try to ensure that all the episodes that led to the social outbreak (…) today people can heal the wounds that this process caused and be able to sow lasting peace.”
Asked about the demonstrations in Plaza Baquedano —also known as Plaza de la Dignidad—, Jackson maintained that “all the protests that have come after the social outbreak have these two focuses: a rivalry between protesters and police, and the slogan that there be justice for the issues of human rights violations”.
“There is probably a sector that has not been given weight (the pardon project), but we are not governing only for people who can gather to protest and, in this case, to generate acts of violence, we need to create a balance where there is common sense”, affirmed the ex-deputy.
