In allusion to Graffiti Day, celebrated today (27), the State Park Library (BPE) hosts, from 2 pm, a free event that will bring together artistic exhibition, shows in rap musicstreet art fair and live paintings.
The event is carried out by a network of partners, including the Graffiti Museum, the Carioca School of Graffiti and the Associação Região de Oficina Nacional de Graffiti (Rongo-RJ), with support from the State Department of Culture and Creative Economy of Rio de Janeiro (Sececrj).
The Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Danielle Barros, highlighted that graffiti is a traditional urban cultural expression in the state. “To encourage these artists, last year we launched an unprecedented public notice, awarding 48 urban productions in Rio de Janeiro. So, being able to celebrate this day, during an event at our BPE, is the certainty that we remain attentive to the demands and open doors for professionals who represent this art”.
graffiti day
Graffiti Day is celebrated worldwide on March 27. The date is a tribute to one of the main precursors of urban art in Brazil, the Ethiopian plastic artist, naturalized Brazilian, Alex Vallauri, who died on March 27, 1987. Alex spread his graffiti throughout the city of São Paulo and, later, in New York.
The artist had several exhibitions and, in one of them, in 1985, he presented an installation at the 17th International Biennial of São Paulo, in homage to the rapper and urban artist Nino Rap, from the band Nocalte, the first rap band nominated for a Latin Grammy.
Initially linked to culture hip hop, the graffiti drawings and illustrations are also a form of personal expression and address various themes, such as citizenship and respect. Graffiti is still considered an important tool for social inclusion.
Graffiti artist Fael Tujaviu, founder of the Graffiti Museum and the Carioca School of Graffiti, highlighted that, for artists, graffiti has the mission of transforming lives by redefining the spaces where it is presented. “Behind the creativity and desire to color the city, graffiti artists carry the duty of discussing social problems in the form of art,” he said.
Mobilization
In addition to the face-to-face activities, the organizers are making a virtual mobilization, through the dissemination of graffiti paintings on social networks. Publications are identified with the hashtag #WorldGraffitiDayBr. Artists from Brazil and the world are invited to participate in the celebration.
The Parque Estadual Library is located at Avenida Presidente Vargas, 1261, central region of the state capital.
