The Minister of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) Raul Araújo accepted a request from the PL and determined that the Lollapalooza festival prohibits the holding of demonstrations that can be classified as political-electoral by the artists who perform at the event, which ends today (27). ).
The minister’s decision is monocratic and was taken after the PL called the Court, due to demonstrations by artists Pablo Vittar and Marina, on Friday (25).
The party argued that during the presentations, the artists spoke out in favor of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and against the president of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, affiliated with the PL. For the party’s lawyers, the demonstrations would constitute early electoral propaganda, which is not permitted by law.
In yesterday’s ruling (26), the minister justified the decision on the grounds that this type of propaganda “may be triggered again”, since Lollapalooza’s programming starts at noon today and ends after 11 pm.
“I partially reject the request for injunctive relief formulated in the exordial of representation, in the sense of honoring the legal prohibition, prohibiting the realization or manifestation of ostensible and extemporaneous electoral propaganda in favor of any candidate or political party by musicians and musical groups that perform at the festival”, wrote Araújo.
The minister also stipulated a fine of BRL 50,000 for the festival for each time the ban is disobeyed, “until further deliberation” by the Court.
