Before casting his vote in the department of Rivera, the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, assured the media that the procedures carried out in Parque Paladino to a Progreso store “it’s in the routine”.

“We carry out these police actions in all the stadiums as a security measure for the stadium itself so that weapons, drugs or fireworks are not introduced,” he said.

The chief assured that an investigation will be made “as always when there is a complaint” to find out if there was “some irregularity”.

However, he anticipated that due to the information he handled until this Sunday morning, the action that was taken was to guarantee that “the soccer game is a party.”

“To say that the Ministry of the Interior was requisitioning lists seems crazy to me. We guarantee the vote, quite contrary to what the networks echoed that we were requisitioning lists and t-shirts. It seems nonsense to me. It is not the function of the Ministry of the Interior,” he declared.

This performance is performed in all shows, he added, so that “they can be done in peace.” “We had an important one the other day (Uruguay’s game against Peru at the Centenario Stadium) and we haven’t had a single problem. And it’s because the police are acting.”

The portfolio had already stated this Saturday that the performance is routine in all sporting events.

For its part, the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, said that what happened “was not generated by the Yes Commission” and assured that there were no pronouncements in this regard due to the electoral ban. “We have to take care of democracy in each one of our actions,” he declared and said that after election day they will decide on what happened.

While, The manager of the official Progreso store said that two agents requested an inspection of the store premises, where they did not seize any suspicious items.

Hours later, the La Teja club issued a statement in which it expressed its “absolute rejection” of the “unnecessary action of the police.” As they assured, the withdrawal of badges that were part of the personal attire of some fans was requested.

They also expressed their disagreement with the review carried out by the Police in the official store, where “they were looking for material of a political nature.” “It is from our consideration an unjustified and overwhelming procedure, unprecedented and that as we understand it was only carried out in our sports scenario.”
