Former President of the Republic José Mujica voted at the Casa Cuna on Carlos María Ramírez Street, Circuit 2031.

After making his vote effective, the former president pointed out the government and the way in which President Luis Lacalle Pou has handled himself in recent months: “It is the first time that a president gets involved in an electoral campaign.”

And he reflected: “The president is not just the government, we elect presidents, not monarchs, we are a democracy of parties. We tend to symbolize things around a figure. There are no magicians throughout history.”

Mujica added that in these elections there will be “no victory or defeat.” He believes that the referendum “is a civic step” that “makes the country mature.”

“There will come a time, in which I will not be, but I believe that the digital civilization will evolve and there will be institutional changes. Probably, resources like this one are going to be almost systematic consultations and they are going to respond to the maturity that societies are taking; democracy is going to be refined, ”she assured.
