The Public Policy Commission of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) highlighted this Saturday the organization’s rejection of the bill that seeks to eliminate duty to the importation of basic basket products for about six months, the organization reported this Saturday, adding that it instructed its legislators to vote against the piece.
The initiative was presented at National Congress by the Executive Branch as part of the measures proposed by President Luis Abinader in response to the wave of inflation affecting the Dominican economy.
The aforementioned commission stated, in a press release, that the measure, far from relieving the pockets of Dominicans, would be detrimental to the country.
The party said that it established its position, through the aforementioned commission, after due analysis of the bill “and, above all, taking into account the positions on it assumed by the productive sectors of the nation, represented in entities such as the AIRD, Confenagro, JAD, Adogranja, Aproleche, ANPA and ADIA”.
“We have decided to reject the initiative as we consider it harmful to the national interest and, above all, because instead of stopping inflation, it will contribute to aggravating it.”, he emphasized.
In his opinion, the proposal would also bankrupt national producers, with the consequent loss of jobs.
The PRDs considered that this will result, in the end, in a deterioration of the quality of life of Dominicans.
It instructs its deputies to vote against the project
“The PRD has always expressed its commitment to the well-being of our people and, in this sense, we concentrate the necessary efforts to carefully weigh each official initiative to fulfill our role as a responsible, useful and constructive opposition political organization”, the organization specified. through a press release.

The PRD He said that he is in the best disposition to work together with the other political forces and the representative organizations of the agricultural sector to look for other much more efficient alternatives to face the high cost of food, without this implying the destruction of the national productive apparatus.
