The National Council of Land Transportation of the Arequipa Region agreed in the last session, held yesterday, not participate in the indefinite strike called for March 28 by a group of heavy cargo carriers.
Teófilo Sánchez, secretary of the Arequipa Truck Drivers Union reported that they are meeting in workshops with the authorities of the central government for the purpose of comply with the agreements entered into minutes of October 26, 2021, but there are also other factors such as football.
“We were never summoned by the other carriers union to make a decision, they fixed and never formally communicated to us. A fighting measure is planned on a platform of claims and it did not happen. In addition, on March 28 the entire cabinet was summoned to Congress, what is more, Peru’s party with Paraguay also“, he pointed.

But, the leader of heavy cargo drivers does not rule out joining the indefinite strike in case the government’s response is not satisfactory for carriers in general.
“We do not rule out going on an indefinite strike. At this moment there are fellow taxi drivers, interprovincial passenger transport service. In Arequipa there are more than 2,500 heavy cargo carriers”he pointed.
The Arequipa carriers adhere to the agreement of the National Union of Carriers of Peru, which agreed on March 23 not to participate in the strike called for him March 28 by the National Front of Heavy Cargo Carriers and Drivers, who demand the elimination of unfair competition from foreign drivers from Bolivia and Ecuador.
THERE WILL BE NO SHORTAGE OF SUPPLY IN MARKETS
Sánchez reported that there will be no shortage of essential products.
“In two or three days there will be no shortages in the markets of Arequipa, you cannot speculate on that because there are merchants who take advantage and monopolize. We have never tried to scare people with shortages,” she said.
