César Acuña: "We welcome the presence of the OAS as an observer of the presidential vacancy process"

The leader of the Alliance for Progress (APP), was in favor of a group of observers from the Organization of American States (OAS), being present at the session of Congress in which the presidential vacancy motion presented against Pedro Castillo will be debated.

“We welcome the presence of the OAS as an observer of the presidential vacancy process. This means that there is no “coup” but a constitutional attribute of our Congress. We trust that this observation will be objective and impartial without interference in our internal affairs”he wrote on his Twitter account.

Last Friday, Foreign Minister César Landa sent a letter to the president of Congress, María del Carmen Alva (Popular Action) to allow the entry of three representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the plenary session on Monday, March 28. March in which the vacancy motion will be debated.

In a statement, he said that on March 23, he transferred to the Presidency of Congress a communication from the General Secretariat of the OAS, requesting that the required facilities be provided so that three high-ranking officials of said international organization can be present in the Plenary. .

Said request responds to an invitation made by the Government of Peru, convinced that the presence of the OAS during the aforementioned debate will contribute to transparency at the national and regional levels of this important procedure for the democratic governance of Peru.”, he expressed.

“For this reason, he trusts that this point of view will be shared by the authorities in charge of the Honorable National Representation”, added the document published by Torre Tagle.

Congressmen questioned request

One of the first legislators to criticize this request from the OAS was Norma Yarrow, from Avanza País, who spread César Landa’s office on social networks.

For her part, Martha Moyano, a congresswoman from Fuerza Popular, commented that it is the right of the government to request that there be representatives of the OAS before Congress.

“It is a right that the Executive has because I understand that they have been invited by them and are requesting facilities. It is a decision that the president of Congress has to make. I understand that she will have to meet with spokespersons”he told the press.

On the other hand, the second vice president of Congress, Enrique Wong (not grouped after the dissolution of the Podemos Peru caucus) pointed out that this cannot give way to some type of external intervention.

“The role of the OAS should not be to classify us to Congress, which is an independent institution, it is one of the three powers of the State. As an observer, they can come to give a certain opinion but not intervene, in any way”, he pointed.
