They demand that the closure of the Bonpland Solidarity Economy Market be lifted

Telam SE

The social economy organizations that make up the Bonpland Solidarity Economy Market held this Saturday a claim day in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo against the closure of their establishment, carried out by the City Government this week, and assured that they will present an amparo action.

Through a statement, the cooperative organizations and fairgrounds of the Bonpland Solidarity Economy Market denounced the intervention of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires with a “authoritarian closure”and stated that “there was no presentation by the officials of the Government Control Agency area, there was no identification, they did not present their credentials.”

Likewise, they demanded that the closure be lifted “immediately” and that a dialogue table be opened between the administration areas of the City Government to avoid new actions of this nature in the future.

In dialogue with Télam, the secretary of the Bonpland Market Cooperator, Ignacio Alonso, reported that four days after the closure they had no news from the City Governmentwith which next week they will continue with protest and dissemination activities in the street, as well as advance with the request for an amparo action that protects them from the arbitrariness of the Buenos Aires Government.

It’s been 15 years that the market stallholders and cooperative members have been waiting for a comprehensive work to be tendered “that leaves the market in a position to be enabled by the other areas of the State administration.”

In this sense, they denounced that the authorization of the Market must be carried out by the Gastronomic Development Directorate, and since the necessary works for its authorization were not carried out, the same Government that is responsible for these works, is the one that uses this argument to carry forward the closure.

“Here there are more than two thousand families that depend on this marketwe are not only those who sell here, but all the producers in the country who find their only space for sale at a fair price in this place and they are cutting it off,” Alonso explained, adding: “We are going to fight for all of them , for our work and for the consumers who supported us a lot”.

In this framework, Alonso pointed out: “We are going to try to seek an amparo, to present a document to deny the identity card that they left and we are also preparing the way in which we are going to communicate directly with the head of the City Government, (Horacio) Rodríguez Larreta, who has to take responsibility because his areas are in an apparent short circuit and someone here has to put things in order and if not take responsibility for this situation. We will continue to fight.”

In the market there are vegetable stalls of cooperatives, family businesses, recovered companies and textile cooperatives.

The protest days for the closure to be lifted and the pending works to be carried out began on Friday at Bonpland 1660, in the Palermo neighborhood, and continue this Saturday with a fair, open radio, cultural and artistic activities.
