Informática 2022, defined the priorities of the software industry in Cuba

The eighteenth edition of the 2022 International Informatics Convention and Fair, which concluded today in this capital, defined the priorities of the software industry in Cuba on the path to digital transformation.

The meeting, which lasted for five days at the Convention Center in Havana, in a hybrid mode (virtual and face-to-face), focused a large part of its theoretical debates on technologies in international trends and their application in Cuba.

Also in the emblematic space, as part of the Cuba Stand, the more than 30 projects that were winners in the ICT Panorama contest, convened by the Ministry of Communications, were presented.

Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, said at the inauguration that the digital transformation proposes greater and better integration of digital processes for the citizen, in the government and in the business sector.

In his speech last Monday, he referred that the creation of infrastructure has been one of the pillars of the process of computerization of society, a policy that has its continuity in the digital transformation, in which Cuba takes the first steps.

Other topics of the event revolved around the digitization of companies and institutions for better management.

Within the framework of the event, the Computer and Electronics Youth Club and the Matanzas Scientific-Technological Park signed a cooperation agreement for the development of innovative projects and the implementation of the main programs of both entities.

The keynote speeches and panels dealt with strategies for the development of Artificial Intelligence, science-technology parks as ICT catalysts, malware and privacy in times of pandemic, and cybersecurity.

Likewise, big data, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies for the advancement of the new technology industry occupied part of the scientific program.

During the closing ceremony, the outstanding projects of the Cuba Stand were recognized, for which the Unique Citizen Card of the Xetid company received a mention and the jury awarded the Grand Prize to the Transfermóvil online payment gateway, from Etecsa.

In the cybersecurity solutions category, the mentions went to E-firma, developed by Softel, and Horus Information Analysis, by Datys, while the award went to Segurmática Seguridad Móvil.

Projects such as the Guajiritos, Avangenio and Dofleini mipymes were also highlighted, in addition to the Desoft Computer Applications Company, the Transportation Information Services Company, the University of Informatics Sciences, GEOCUBA, the Ministries of Education and Justice and the Company of Information Technologies (ETI).

The Special Jury Prize was awarded to Xetid, for being the company with the most products at the Cuba Stand.

As part of the Fair, this time held online through the Fevexpo virtual platform, presentations of the main IT products and solutions were developed.

On the last day of the event, chaired by Mayra Arevich Marín, head of the Ministry of Communications, the agency’s first deputy minister, Wilfredo González Vidal, declared that the meeting fulfilled its objective of working together for digital transformation, the premise of the exchange that began on March 21 and involved more than a thousand delegates.

The current edition of Informática culminated with the call for the next international convention and fair, to be held between March 18 and 22, 2024, at the Convention Palace and the Pabexpo fairgrounds.
