Three sentry boxes that belonged to the criminal gang founded by Carlos Enrique Gómez Rodríguez (El Conejo), were destroyed as part of the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro II operation, according to military sources.
The structures were located specifically in the Curiepe sector of the Santos Michelena municipality (Las Tejerías) where members of the Rural Command Detachment 42-2 of the Bolivarian National Guard patrolled.
In said sector, the soldiers sighted a group of unknown subjects, who, realizing the presence of the military personnel, began to flee from the place.
Once the terrain was cleared, the soldiers proceeded to review the three sentry boxes and obtained 47 7.62×51mm caliber cartridges destined for rifles.
Finally, the officials proceeded to burn the three structures.
El Conejo is allegedly found in a shell in a farm located in Las Tejerías from where he has shown signs of wanting to surrender to the authorities.
The aims of the criminal organization led by El Conejo is to establish a safe route for drug trafficking in the central region of the country, with the advice of Colombian drug cartels, according to what the authorities said.
Such claims were frustrated when the Ministry of the Interior and the Strategic Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb) launched the operation Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro II in which Carlos Revette (El Koki) was killed last Tuesday, February 8.
