The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejolareported that, by instruction of the President Gabriel Boricthe government will send humanitarian aid to Ukraine -in the framework of the Russian invasion-, consisting of 100 thousand dollars from the Chile Fund against Hunger and Poverty, which will be channeled through the International Federation of the Red Cross.
The contribution was approved by the Steering Committee of the Chile Fund, made up of the Minister of RREE, the director of Strategic Planning of Minrel, the executive director(s) of the Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation (Agcid), the resident representative from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the assistant resident representative, also from UNDP Chile, for humanitarian aid.
This fund seeks to help people who live in countries or areas affected by natural disasters or disasters caused by human intervention.
“It should be noted that after the Summit of World Leaders in New York in 2004, Law No. 20,138 was enacted in 2006, authorizing Chile’s contribution to action against hunger and poverty; with which the The Presidency of the Republic is empowered to make contributions of up to US$5 million annually, as part of initiatives against hunger and poverty, to Funds, Programs and Agencies of the United Nations System,” the government said in a statement.
In addition, they recalled that the Chile Fund is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AGCID, in conjunction with UNDP Chile, which since 2011, in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to different countries in the face of various catastrophes, has supported the implementation of more than 70 projects of cooperation, which have contributed to the development of countries in South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia Pacific.
